8th Grade North Dakota History
Course Description
The 8th graders will have North Dakota History for the last two quarters of the year. We will be looking at the history of North Dakota from the early Native Americans through the present day. We will accomplish this through note taking, simulations, projects, and other interactive activities.
Homework
I do not give out a lot of homework throughout the year. The reoccurring homework they will have is to bring in one current event each week and share it with the class. They must find an article, summarize it, and tell the class why they thought it was important. This is only done on weeks with five full days.
Tests
Tests will be given at the end of most chapters. Two days before the tests, each student is given a notecard that they can use on the test. They are able to take their notes and put whatever they want on these notecards to help them once the tests come. The notecards are only able to be used if the student has handed in all of their work, their notes, and their current events. The day before the test is used as a review day where games and partner review is used.
Projects
There will be many projects throughout the year. I always give time for these to be completed in class. If the students are not using their time wisely, this will become homework. There will be one bigger project in the fourth quarter. The students will be choosing 25 important events, people, or places that happened in North Dakota. They will be able to present these in any way they choose, (power point, poster, timeline, ext).
